Developmental Assessments

boy-buildingThese assessments are useful for children who are experiencing some signs of developmental delay (ie. delays associated with prematurity, speech delays, fine or gross motor skill delays, social delays). Developmental assessments are used to identify if there are specific areas of difficulty or whether there appears to be a global developmental delay. The results can be helpful in planning and evaluating the effectiveness of interventions such as speech therapy and occupational therapy. Please note a diagnosis of autism is not necessary for this assessment. A developmental assessment is not intended to replace an autism diagnostic assessment.

It is possible that you can receive rebates for a developmental assessment through the Chronic Disease Management (formerly Enhanced Primary Care) Medicare initiative.

Please contact your private health fund to enquire about rebates for Clinical Psychology (these vary between funds and levels of Extras Cover). If you require a developmental assessment in addition to an autism assessment, the developmental assessment results can be incorporated into the autism assessment feedback session (this reduces the Developmental Assessment fee by $241).
