About Our Clinic

Autism Understanding is a dynamic private psychology practice located in The Junction, Newcastle.

We:

  • Support children, adolescents and adults in discovering if autism is helpful in explaining their social communication style, need for predictability and routine, tendency towards repetitive movement, intense interests, and sensory sensitivities.
  • Tailor strategies to each Autistic individual's needs, and adjust strategies as they come across new challenges.
  • Assist family members to glimpse the world from an autistic perspective, to support individuals' strengths and passions, and to plan ahead to avoid potential pitfalls.
  • Recognise autism as part of human neurodiversity and work to empower our clients through self-advocacy.
  • Conduct autism, developmental, cognitive, attention, adaptive, and reading assessments, and aren’t afraid to assess kids without "test-taking skills".
  • Provide counselling and strategies for neurodiverse adolescents, adults and children
  • Are committed to continuity of care so that our clients and their families can develop trust and shared understanding with a consistent psychologist.
  • Are proud members of the APPI, APS, and ACON.
